Don’t Trust Every Guru: Woman Starves To Death From ‘Sunlight Diet’ Under Yogi’s Exam
Don’t Trust Every Guru: Woman Starves To Death From ‘Sunlight Diet’ Under Yogi’s Example

A Swiss woman who was on a spiritual journey managed to starve herself to death after trying to follow a sunlight-only diet. Meaning, she consumed NO food and no water, believing that she too could live the way that an Indian guru did who claimed to feed his body only sunlight and air for 70 years. Was she high to believe that she could actually do this and survive?

Apparently. After watching the 2010 film In the Beginning There Was Light where an Indian yogi named Prahlad Jani claims to have lived for seven decades without food or water, the Swiss woman decided to set out on her own spiritual journey and try the diet for herself.

After spending a week “consuming” just air and sunlight while eating and drinking nothing—not even her own saliva —the unnamed woman stopped at the request of her children. But that didn’t last long. She resumed the crazy lifestyle and was later found dead in her home. The cause of death? You guessed it–starvation.

In case you haven’t heard of this crazy practice, it’s called Breatharianism. Basically, believers claim food and water are unnecessary for survival. They claim that humans can be sustained solely by prana (the vital life force in Hinduism), or simply by the energy in sunlight (according to Ayurveda, sunlight is one of the main sources of prana).

Well someone clearly doesn’t know what they’re talking about because you obviously CANNOT live on just sunlight and air alone. I’m all for yoga and am a yogi myself, and I hate that this type of lifestyle is connected with a supposed yogi guru. It just gives yoga a bad rap. But so does following any type of guru. That’s just dangerous and, in this case, stupid, to think one person has all the answers and we should follow the way he lives.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, reports indicate that several others have also tried this sunlight diet. And guess what? They all died too.

Thanks for the post yeti, it would have been nice if more details had been included. Such as, if she spent a lot of time staring at the sun what shape were her eyes in.

What does it matter what shape her eyes were in? I'm curious.

To see if this was part of her regimen.

Fucking hilarious.

This is natural selection in the 21st century.
People seem to grant instant credit to so called "yogis" from the east. It's not uncommon knowledge to people from India that 80% of these guys are frauds. Just cause it comes from the east and is wrapped up in spirituality doesn't mean shit. Spiritual is the new snake oil.

RE: Don’t Trust Every Guru: Woman Starves To Death From ‘Sunlight Diet’ Under Yogi’s Exam
The idea behind this is to, via meditation and visualisation, convert those energies (indeed, any energies, not just sunlight or "prana") into nutrients. Even regular ol' electromagnetic radiation can technically be converted into matter. I don't know if humans (or any material beings) possess the ability to do as such, but, if the case is that we can, we can't just expect nature to do it for us - we have to will it to do so.

People learn the hard way that they have to do things the hard way. Then again, with all of these alleged "experts" telling people that this food is dangerous, and that food is dangerous, and we're not supposed to consume (cholesterol|fats|carbohydrates|etc), that one makes the conclusion, based on the advice of those who are self serving, or idiots, or both, that food and water are bad, and that nature itself is designed to take care of us so "we don't have to."

psilocybin: I'm appalled that anyone would think the death of an individual is hilarious. This situation demonstrates, for those willing to pay attention, that we humans are clearly willing to let this nonsense continue rather than expose shills for what they are. (You might be surprised how hard some of us have to work to counter the bullshit by yourselves and the self-serving corporates, and how quickly we give up and decide to serve ourselves and let the rest of you perish at your own hands.)

I don't know if gurus are capable of such feats, but this woman, had she done her homework beforehand, would have known better. Her family must be going through some considerable pain as a result.

This woman has fallen prey to something any of us into conspiracy are prone to... Buying into something that isn't legit. When people try to help you, because of the nature of alternative thought vs. mainstream thought, it just drives the person further away.

The plants are our photosynthesis factories, they transform the sunlight and other elements into a form which we can use. I don't know what "more evolved "means.

What happened to common sense? For crying out loud, even plants need water!!
Anyone that believes they can live and thrive without food or water is missing a brain cell or two. There is no saving that kind of stupidity.
And yes I call that stupidity. Since the beginning of ones life as a baby, they are dependant on food and water for life. What someone decides to believe in after they get older, does nothing to change that simple fact of human biology.

I wouldnt say they're more evolved than humans. They're just different species of biological life.
And even certain species of plants are sometimes dependant on consuming other plants, and sometimes even animals for their survival.

It's all about self-sufficiency, and how much organisms are dependant upon other organisms for survival.

Water is basic yes, but even that can be taken from the air if need be. Conspiracy theorists have their mouth full of machines that produce energie more than they need, free energy devices. In this light, parasites ( even more) and vampires are totally dependant, predators less but also, then you have herbivores. then plants, etc etc.

Suns and cells are pretty high up the scale wouldn't you say?

This woman clearly wasn't ready for this kind of living.

Symbiosis is also a nice word Smile
