Another 'painful' Gaza war on horizon?
Quote:Tel Aviv has threatened Hamas movement with a harsh response should 'rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip' continue to hit Israeli towns.
"The Israeli government has formulated policies and a unanimous decision has been made by the Cabinet according to which, should the rocket fire continue, we will respond in a serious, painful, strong and uncompromising way," said outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert at the cabinet meeting Sunday.
"Israel has a wide range of options which can be used and these options will be utilized until total quiet is brought to the South," Olmert added.
On mid January, Tel Aviv announced a ceasefire after its three-week offensive against the Gaza Strip, which had provoked widespread outrage among the international community.
The all-out onslaught left over 1,300 people killed and hundreds of others wounded or displaced in the densely-populated territory.
The Israeli military, however, did not abide by the ceasefire and relented attacks on the beleaguered territory.
The Prime Minister claimed that "Hamas is trying to recover from the stiff blow they suffered during Operation Cast Lead through the use of terror."
This is while Palestinian factions other than Hamas have claimed responsibility for the recent rocket attacks on Israel.
