Flaherty: Canada to come out of slump first
Quote:OTTAWA - Finance Minister Jim Flaherty is sticking with the government's view that Canada will exit the recession ahead of most other nations.

Flaherty was reacting to a new International Monetary Fund report that says the economy will likely suffer intensely in the near term. He notes the IMF report also suggests that Canada is in better shape than many other countries to withstand the global slowdown.

But he says a key to recovery is passing and implementing his government's $40-billion stimulus package, which is intended to be spent over two years.

He says he is not underestimating the difficulties in efficiently implementing the plan, however.

He also urged the Senate to quickly pass the stimulus budget, saying he fears the upper chamber will delay it.

I think that's a little overly optimistic considering our largest trading partner is going down the shitter... hope he's right tho.
