US prepares to launch Libya attack
Quote:Latest media reports suggest that the United States and its allies may be preparing the ground for a military intervention in Libya.

The US Senate has unanimously passed a resolution calling for a no-fly zone over Libya.

The US Senate Armed Services Committee said all options, including the military option, should be on the table.

Earlier, the US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said Washington is looking at a full range of options for Libya.

Meanwhile, the US dailies, New York Times and Washington Post said the dissident leaders in the Libyan city of Benghazi have been debating about making a request for foreign air strikes against Gaddafi forces.

The report said the dissident leaders are growing frustrated over Gaddafi's iron grip on power.

Moreover, two US warships bound for the Mediterranean have entered Egypt's Suez Canal.

The USS Kear-sarge and the USS Ponce are carrying hundreds of marines, a fleet of helicopters and military equipment.

This comes as speculations escalate about a possible foreign military intervention in Libya.

Many observers believe that the US is concerned about the safety of Libya's oil reserves and not the country's people.

Libya holds the largest proven oil reserves in North Africa.

Meanwhile, the Israeli regime has reportedly authorized a security firm to send mercenaries to Libya to crush anti-government protesters there.

A journalist from Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot states that Tel Aviv has decided to recruit African mercenaries to fight against anti-government protesters in Libya.

The journalist says the director of the security firm was allowed to provide Libya's intelligence agency with the mercenaries.

Israel Zef, has reportedly met with Abdullah Assinousi, one of the leaders in Libya's intelligence agency.

Reports also indicate that the company has recruited 500,000 African mercenaries, charging the Libyan regime 200 dollars per day for each mercenary.

The revelation comes a few days after the United States demanded immunity for the foreign mercenaries in the International Criminal Court.

The forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi are struggling to prevent the protesters from taking the fight to Tripoli, where the ruler is holed up.

Libyan Human Rights League has said that a brutal crackdown by the regime on opposition protests that began nearly two weeks ago has left an estimated 6,000 people dead so far.

RE: US prepares to launch Libya attack
however the military has basically said "you and whos army?" you need to grow your population before considering any more "action"

As a senior official said. to create a no fly zones requires the destruction of units on the ground. not just planes flying around shooting at other planes. this requires an act of war. i think too many clever people are being allowed to speak, its interesting when we have the chance to be merciful.... the wise men come out and show the young and idealistic the dangers of their ways. silent when their boss can profit. such a shame.

TBH air drops. prop them up with food and water. they will do the rest themselves and feel they have a friend again. That would be the best strategic plan. if these people want revolution then allow them to fight for their freedom. I wonder sometimes..... who would come to our aid in a revolt?

RE: US prepares to launch Libya attack
If they have to attack just sending a team of 30 from the SAS and Royal Marines. It's clear the UK doesn't even have the business to set up there (as opposed to the USA), and 30 guys from those teams could sort it in 24 hours, after having dealt with all leadership personnel, and then exit, leaving the people in a system of self determination.

Anything else is SURE to end with civilian casualties and deaths. And such loss is not worth the sacrifice imo.

The ruling elite need their forces sitting on that oil protecting it.

Look at history - a no-fly zone is a prelude to war.

It's pretty much guaranteed.

RE: US prepares to launch Libya attack
well the SAS lads got released.
my reckoning is that the brit govt want to make sure that the "deal in the dessert" details do not come out as this would then lead to the truth about Al Megrahi NOT being the lockerbire bomber and a man who took the bullet for it none the less.
this was the reason that westminster pressured the Scottish govt into releasing Megrahi rather than him getting his appeal which was ready to rock with new information which would have shot the bullshit of his conviction down in flames.
Scotland took a LOT of grief over the release of Megrahi. however it Is within Scots Law to release a terminally ill prisoner early.
with cancer you can never really tell, even when it's inoperable when your time is up. sp people moaning 2but he was only meant to have x months to live and he's still alive".. there IS such a thing as remission if the treatment is right.
but he certainly does have cancer and he certainly didn't do what he was accused of.
it's obvious to all with half a brain that there was no way he did it, the evidence was more than flimsy and circumstantial and the Malta witness was a paid shill.
thus sending in the SAS team with the "diplomat"(read MI6) to try and smooth things over with potential members of a new regime there.
well that and making sure all that lovely oil remains accessible.
As i said in another post, The Black Watch are on standby as we speak , ready to go in on a "humanitarian aide mission".
in my view that's basically dangling a carrot at those who would and will shoot at them... they are complete cannon fodder in this and when they do get shot at/killed/injured then that gives the excuse to send in MORE troops.
