Perfect example of how concept of limited-hangout was used in advertising
Perfect example of how the concept of limited-hangout was used in advertising encouraging more individualism and in this case specifically, individualism and 'more choice' for women, who never even thought of smoking before Bernays told them why they should:
![]() Why is Phillip Morris promoting comparing their brand to other brands by actually smoking and trying out those other brands? Doesn't this mean that the newly liberated self-believer future-cancer-receiver might potentially choose the 'competing' brand to Phillip Morris's detriment? Yes. But that still keeps the 'self-believer' smoking doesn't it? And who benefits from this? The entire tobbaco industry, that's who, and furthermore any other newly created industries catering to 'self-belief' and 'individualism' through a thousand and one ways. And who owns both Phillip Morris and the rest of the cigarette makers and tobacco companies the newly encouraged 'self-belivers' might choose, not to mention all the other newly created products catering to more individualism and 'self-belief' for females? Why, gee whiz, Batman, it wouldn't be the people who provided financing to the tobacco industry now, would it? No wonder they're not all that afraid of competition since they've got a piece of ALL the competition. And who is likely to have a piece of every industry that caters to newly individualized and self-believing women and other human types? Will a car run without fuel? Can any industry big enough to be called that survive without finance? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amicus Plato, sed magis amica veritas …. “Plato is my friend, but truth is a better friend" He who desires or attempts to reform the government of a state, and wishes to have it accepted, must at least retain the semblance of the old forms; so that it may seem to the people that there has been no change in the institutions, even though in fact they are entirely different from the old ones. For the great majority of mankind are satisfied with appearances, as though they were realities.
