RE: What is the Mystery of the Mystery Schools?
I've used most hallucinogens available today, (No DiPT, no Iboga, and the 2-CB I've done may have been something else,) but most of the really intense "shredding of the imaginary veil that surrounds us" experiences I've had have been on LSD or mescaline. On LSD, I've twice had the experience of disincorporation in the presence of the Ouroboros of existence - once with a view from outside, and one glorious time where I understood my place from within... truly an amazing experience. I think that there's a serious detriment to the introspective activities that are possible when there's input from anything human other than yourself... if on an path to understanding the "universe", solitude in nature is the best setting in which to do so... I've taken most of the well known entheogens in this setting, and the always seem to be more profound then when taken in others... It's come to the point now where I won't take them any other way... This may be where the hippies went wrong... the 'love-in" angle, although quite enjoyable, leave too many grounding threads running into you from outside yourself. And I wouldn't be surprised if leary handed out DMT to the bigwigs because of its duration, rather than its superiority.
It may very well be that under the influence of LSD or mescaline, you can encourage your brain to release DMT from your pineal gland. Neither DMT by itself (smoked or IM injected,) nor the numerous ayahuasca analogs I've taken have ever compared. They still leave me here, incorporate, and all though I may have experience waves of environments or entities beyond this plane, I've never reached a complete OBE. It would be worth trying, I think, to allow some LSD to start working (for 2-3 hrs,) and then ingest some DMT, and see where that takes me... Mushrooms seem to easily allow for astral travel out of body, but they seem to lack either the control or impetus (or more accurately, I lack them under their influence,) to be able to get to the really high levels... even when combined with LSD or mescaline, I seem to experience some form of limitation/grounding. I can get to the levels that mushrooms provide through meditation, particularly in sensory deprivation. another note... back when I was a heroin addict (more than ten years ago) I was also able to leave my body after particularly large doses (which can probably only be handled by someone with a tolerance - not suggested!) but it was more of a lucid dream state, where I continued on in this plane of existence but in another dimension. This can be researched in various addict memoirs, (the names of which escape me right now,) rather than going through it personally.
