Can I rename my username?

Can I rename my username?
Is it possible (with some admin intervention perhaps) to rename my login / username without creating a new account or losing any of my past comments?

I would like my user name to be "Alex Libman" (with a space if possible, or "AlexLibman" without a space if not possible).

See, I created this account before I started taking my RealNamesPlease ethic more seriously, and back then I thought it was just another questionably "legal" torrent site - don't remember if there was a forum back then or not.

(And, in case anyone was wondering - no, "Sprite0" wasn't a reference to an aspartame-poisoned soft-drink, but to early video game programming, where you'd have all movable objects on screen in an array and the 0th element would usually be the guy / "sprite" controlled by the player.)

perfect timing... He just claimed yesterday that he was putting concen in a "penalty box" because we're all a bunch of lunatic commies. Now, maybe, if he comes back, he won't be able to figure out how to log in!Thumbup

(1) Yes, I'm leaving the forum for a couple of months to let the shock of my libertarian / Anarcho-Capitalist philosophy cool down a bit, in hope that the people here will be better able to handle a rational discussion when I return. So many forums, so little time...

(2) I only recall calling 2-3 people here "commies", and always because they behaved as such. I'd never use the word "lunatic" in a derogatory way, because that's our nickname for Ken Lay and all the other people aboard the John Galt XVII space station located behind the moon... Oops, I've said too much. Wink

(3) I had no trouble logging out and back in. See you in a few months. Read some good books while I'm gone. Seriously, good luck.

A little too much hostility for someone sharing his opinions, what for?

you've read avidly of a small number of co-joined fringe economic theories but I don't see you as a political scientist if that comment is anything to evaluate upon.

What happened did they start collectivising the board?

mostly just bristling due to his massive quantities of intellectual dishonesty... The guy is a professional troll - he got banned over at the Ubuntu forums with less than 30 posts for pulling similar things to the stuff he did here... If someone decides to jump on an open-source community to voice political and economic theory in direct opposition to the foundation of that community, I think I'm able to accurately describe him as a jackass/troll interchangeably without much qualification. If you look at some of his posts, you'll notice that he seems to just be voicing his opinions, but if you look at the totality of them, you'll notice that he keeps saying the same things, intentionally disregarding points that go against it, and smearing the same inane talking points across as much real estate as he could get his hands on before leaving, without addressing seriously any of the valid criticisms against his ideas... I was ready to debate, but he didn't want to. he wanted to spew dogma and run away. That's why he's a jackass.

edit: oh yeah, and what nik said.

RE: Can I rename my username?
I'd debate that guy.

I am not sure though what his position is. Are you for free market capitalism, but without a government? I have no problem with the former, but a big problem with the latter. I think there should be limited government. I think the USA system was a good one, at least theoretically. Government created by the people, to protect the rights of the individual. Right to bear arms. Sounded good to me. Why anarcho- ... anything?

"Why anarcho- ... anything?"
That's pretty much what Nik ripped him for initially... the fact that capitalism and anarchy are antithetical, and he did a great job at it, I have to say.

The issue with Alex is that, in dealing with a question like yours, Hans - A simple, yet well thought out question that deserved to be answered would instead, in most cases, be dissected, and each clause would be taken out of context from the rest, in an effort to make the questioner seem uninformed and providing another chance to spew out more of the same rhetoric without ever adressing the valid point the question contained.

"I'd debate that guy."
You'd try, but you'd most likely come to the same conclusion that Nik, Melchor and I did. But I guess we won't be able to figure that out for a couple months, because we're in his commie penalty box. CryCrybaby

No, no, no. I don't have an issue with capitalism. It's not antiethical. It's not a fact. So he didn't do a great job. You guys have soooo damn broad brushes when it comes to this. I only asked about the anarcho... something part. Capitalism is fine. You guys are acting like Infowars reporters in a CFR meeting. This is shameful.

You might want to reread his statement carefully: he said that capitalism is antithetical to anarchy. I'm pretty sure antiethical is not even a word.

Lol...I can see that. He's pitching a fit now eh?
That is one of the pet peeves I have of the AnCaps that I have talked to. A lot of times they just reduce themselves to name calling, whether it be "commie", "socialist" or "statist", whatever...instead of addressing the issues or questions presented. Especially when they feel like they are being challenged, it seems the vitriol is even worse then.
I dont know whether its born out of frustration in trying to get thru to people that they think share a lot of the same views as them-yet still hold support of some form of government, or if its just downright trollish douche-baggery. The internets dont really leave room for a more filtered style of discussion. I guess its much easier to call names thru a computer, then reserve the same respect as would be if the discussion were in person.
But I also try to let the name-calling not cause a reaction that may have me disregard the information or philosophy in question. I also remember being called lots of names when I was still asleep. Names like "sheep", "lemming" and "brain-washed moron". I know Im neither so I didnt let those kind of things bother me so much. And Ive learned a shitload of very important diallectic-smashing info since then.
Just saying...to all involved. We can make great changes. If not, then at least we can prepare for the worst of whats to come. But either way, we can, need and really should do it together.
