RE: Over 26,000 US Businesses that accept Barter
Great list, anything similar in Canada? There was a local currency system called LETS in BC back in the 80s, then the government wanted to tax it and it degraded. I've seen some local barter groups but no local directory or charter.
Local Exchange Trading Schemes are about connecting people, easing poverty, tackling social exclusion and enhancing community spirit in all sectors of society. Individual schemes will have specific local or common objectives, but in general LETS provides a voluntary, not-for-profit vehicle to pursue objectives such as: • Exchange of goods and services • Enabling and encouraging social transactions and mutual support • Encouraging people to be active, to maintain their skills, and develop new skills • Achieving Local Agenda 21 objectives - by educating members to "think globally - act locally" towards better stewardship of the planet. LETS uses • a Local Currency System, or • a Timebased Commitment System, • a Gifting System • or a combination of the above http://letslink.org/ The Freecycle Network is made up of 4,859 groups with 6,756,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. http://www.freecycle.org/ CouchSurfing is a worldwide network for making connections between travelers and the local communities they visit. http://www.couchsurfing.org/ There are no others, there is only us. http://FastTadpole.com/ |

The bloody site is dead now.
Appears to be a dead link now.. http://www.opencurrency.com/directory/in...iew=region I'll try to find an archive hoping to find more than a link on here.. wayback didn't quite do it. http://web.archive.org/web/2009032605093...iew=region Too Bad .. so sad I was hoping to use the list as a starting point for a Ethical Companies, Services, Products and Businesses Directory.
