LOL, nothing on IPB is mandatory, it's hugely customisable. CR also runs on IPB - the most secure forum software - and you can see how far from the default it is now.
BTW - I hit the "report this post" link to draw this to Ctrl's attention, as I think he'll want to move on this - nice one:) |

Ctrl - what would you like to have done with this?
