Odd, perhaps, but just yesterday a friend asked me what I knew about the Quakers. I replied that [as far as I know] they got the name from their habit of "becoming full of the spirit" then falling to the floor and
"quaking" - shaking with the power of it: This also earned them the title "Holy Rollers" from all the rolling on the floor.

TBH, this is just "what I've heard"- a more detailed description is available at Wikipedia... An interesting point to note: Cadbury's Chocolate comes from an area of Birmingham, England known as Bournville: A planned Community set up around the Cadbury Chocolate Factory. The Cadbury family established healthcare, minimum wage, schools, churches and even swimming pools (plus free lessons) for all of their employees, in addition to promoting and enforcing the rights of workers. The village is still there, still inhabited and still focussed around the chocolate factory... which is still producing Cadbury's famous Dairy Milk chocholate.

Eep! My mistake... it seems that "Holy Rollers" applies tp Pentecostals rather than Quakers. Apologies.

Funny that you mention it, cause there is this game called "Stubbs the zombie" in one of the levels you go into a farm full of rednecks that call them selves the Quackers militia and some of their comments are about the Illuminati world domination plot and the NWO.

Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it.

Not quite wrong though, the Shakers were directly related to the Quakers.
Quote:The name Shakers, and the variant, Shaking Quakers, originally pejorative, was applied as a mocking description of their rituals of trembling, shouting, dancing, shaking, singing, and glossolalia (speaking in strange and unknown languages). [MOLLY IS THE BOMB ALSO ]origin is probably similar to that of the term Quaker. The first documented use of the term comes from a British newspaper reporter who wrote in 1758 that the worshippers rolled on the floor and spoke in tongues.
See the FAQ:
Quote:The "Quakers" are occasionally confused with the "Shakers";
the Shakers were to some extent a "spin-off" of the Quakers, a
group started by a Manchester, England woman, Ann Lee, who was
born Quaker. She formed a "celibate order" which started communities
throughout the United States. The Shakers are quite interesting
in their own right, adding speaking in tongues and free-form
dancing to the end of a Quaker-style silent meeting. There are
fewer than 10 Shakers left today in the last remaining Shaker
community in Maine, but several of their communities are preserved
as museums.

They pre-date pentecostals by about 60 years and obviously had similar spiritual experiences.

'Prove and scrutinize all things; hold fast that which is good.'
'And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.' Paul of Tarsus

Pentacostals are essentially the modern day descendants of the quakers and shakers.
The holly rollers, yes the Rapture believing "drunk on the spirit" babbling nonesense believing they are speaking in tounges, types. Lots of Zionists in their ranks, since they believe that Israel is part of the return of Jesus and all...
