11,000-Year-Old Building Discovered in Syria

Remains of a large, round building on the banks of the Euphrates River in Syria near Ja'de have been discovered by a team of researchers from France's largest science research body, the National Centre for Scientific Research.

Archaeological team leader Eric Coqueugniot said the building "had a collective use, probably for all of the village or a group" adding they discovered portions shaped like a bull's head and the oldest known painted decorations in the Mideast.

The colorful paintings will eventually be displayed in a museum in Aleppo. Tools and weapons made of flint, and a few made of obsidian were also found at the site.

Dr. Hermann Oberth who pioneered rocket design for the German Reich during World War II and later advanced rocket technology for the American manned space launches, cryptically stated: "We cannot take the credit for our record advancement in certain scientific fields alone; we have been helped."

When asked by whom, he replied: "The people of other worlds."

That's fabulous! Now if we could only find something, say, 500,000 years old... What are the odds? How deep would something that old be buried? Would anything hold up that long?

Don't believe anything they say.
And at the same time,
Don't believe that they say anything without a reason.

Good questions... what COULD hold up that long? Looking around at our current world what do we have that might make it... I'd say there's a small possibility something fashioned from gold might, but the chances that it would survive geological changes are fairly slim. Likewise glass is unlikely to not be smashed and crushed... I guess some plastic items might survive... considering how many we make, there's a good chance someone/something in the future might be checking out plastic bottles and wondering why we made so many of them. I can't imagine what from 500k years ago would survive though unless by luck it was sealed away somewhere, somehow.

Not that I doubt there was advanced civilazation that long ago, but how exactly do they date these sorts of things? It didn't say they carbon dated it or anything in that article, it seems like they are just coming up with the number based on their own interpretations and prior research/archeological beliefs. For all we know this building could be much older.

The belief in 'coincidence' is the prevalent superstition of the Age of Science.

Well from some stuff I've checked out regarding recovered tablets and whatnot, dating seems to be partially art but has a LOT of different input... and some of it is stuff you'd never think of normally. Besides carbon and sedimentary dating, there's also just looking at stylistic changes in artifacts and tiny clues such as seeds or plant materials which have previously been documented to have taken certain routes over specific time periods. As a general rule of thumb I'd want to check everything out before believig it and have MULTIPLE tests conducted to verify... on the other hand, whenever anyone tries to pull a fast one you can pretty much rely on the christian right to shout bullshit from the highest mountaintop.

Did any of you see that doc on the tracker "the mysterious orgins of man"?

They had some artifacts they dated to over 2 billion years. They're nearly perfect spheres unearthed in Africa with mysterious circlular indentations that go around. To me they look like the death star. Nobody can explain how they could have formed naturally though.
Quote:Over the past several decades, South African miners have found hundreds of metallic spheres, at least one of which has three parallel grooves running around its equator. The spheres are of two types--"one of solid bluish metal with white flecks, and another which is a hollow ball filled with a white spongy center" (Jimison 1982). Roelf Marx, curator of the museum of Klerksdorp, South Africa, where some of the spheres are housed, said: "The spheres are a complete mystery. They look man-made, yet at the time in Earth's history when they came to rest in this rock no intelligent life existed. They're nothing like I have ever seen before" (Jimison 1982).

There's also stone tools found under Table Mountain in the western US dated to 250,000 years. This is kind of a must see if you haven't.

I've had that docu sitting on my HD unwatched for ages... I will be watching it today heh! I've seen that pic already tho, on sites that have OOPART related material... fascinating stuff. I have no doubt at all that there was a high civilisation before ours, the only questions in my mind is when were they active? and what were they like?

And I agree... this is a job for inca... whom I sometimes wonder if he is really an AI awakening somewhere inside the internet itself...:)
