Best Linux Out There ?
Hey whats the best linux out there???? You know RED HAT, UNBUNTU,KNOPPIX, ETC.....?

In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

As a reputed atheist, the reverential nature of his film was surprising, but Pasolini himself said &If you know that I am an unbeliever, then you know me better than I do myself. I may be an unbeliever, but I am an unbeliever who has a nostalgia for a belief.&

I prefer Debian, but if you are a beginner I'd definitely suggest K/Ubuntu. It seems to be the most user-friendly and has a huge user-base.

BSD? EEeurgh! That's totally ghey. "Balls suck dick.":P(No, nothing wrong with homosexuality when you're that way yourself, but I like making fun of a very convoluted offshoot of unix)

I use ubuntu myself, kubuntu is the same, but uses KDE rather than gnome for it's desktop. It's up to you which you prefer. Do try Ubuntu, they will happily send you cd's of the software.

Offshoot? BSD and System V diverged long long before Linus ever conveived of any Linux variant. Fact is, BSD is in some way making your internet activity possible right now. Check out FreeBSD, because that's what hackers use. Ubuntu is for the clueless newcomers with pretentions of grandeur. But that's just my opinion, you should check it out for yourself.;)

Ubuntu is good for beginners. I wouldn't suggest a newbie to use freebsd it'll be a real pain in the ass to figure out everything and most likely you'll just get frustrated and go back to windows.

I'm with Grell and I also prefer using Debian. Knoppix is also a good live distrobution and I prefer it over the K/Ubuntu distrobutions.

Actually, PC-BSD is an "offshoot" of FreeBSD. They added a very nice and respectable installer, and did some great work with package management.

Must be doing something right when they get bought out just over a year in existence, by iXsystems.

Not to mention, Free *BSD put's stability in Linux to shame.

Overall, it's a very nice package they put together, good on them.

K-ubuntu is nice for most applications

OpenSUSE is very complete and works well out of the Box

I'm happy with both:)

Don't come at me with that bollocks. I have a my sql server running open balls sucking dick. Ubuntu just works and I don't have to fit into any l33t crowd. Anyway, if Wayfarer is new to Linux, it's a good start, it has an active community, and apt-get makes installing stuff a breeze.

Mmmmm, last I read Linus was the guru who released ALL KERNELS for ALL LINUX distro's.

The rest is window dressing.

Ubuntu/SuSE/Fedora are easy...Ubuntu being a personal favorite.

ctrl has a point, the kernel is the same no matter where you go.

however, I heard that redhat was developed with the nsa (bad).
I also heard bad things about SELinux.

Are any of the kernel versions completely open source?
