If the Roman Catholic church is so benevolent as you would like to have us believe then why is it that it doesn't seek more effective and systematic ways to combat poverty and other forms of misery? Why doesn't it use some of its incredible wealth to massively create jobs, truly relieve poverty on a more systematic way instead of the virtually impotent stopgap measure of financing and running soup-kitchens? Why are there slums even in Rome if the RC Church had some measure of true potential and desire in combatting poverty? What inspired the Reformation to refrain from gaining material riches in their way to honor the Creator?
