Israeli Ministers Name Conflict With Hezbollah "second Lebanon War"
Published: Wednesday March 21, 2007

Jerusalem- An Israeli ministerial panel decided Wednesday
to officially name last year's 33 days of combat with the Lebanese
Hezbollah movement "the Second Lebanon War," its chairman announced.
The official name was given several days after the Israeli
government, bowing to popular sentiment, redefined the month-long
conflict and formally termed it a war.

Second Lebanon War has been picked up by the Israeli public as the
common name for the conflict, said Minister Without Portfolio Yaakov
Edri, who chairs the Ministerial Committee on Symbols and Ceremonies.

"There's no discussion about it, and we decided on it
unanimously," he told Channel 10 television.

By doing so, the committee also heeded a request by family members
of soldiers who died in the war, he said.

Government officials had previously refrained from calling the
offensive against Hezbollah and the group's strikes against Israel a
war, because the fighting did not take place between two sovereign
states but rather between a state and the Shiite Muslim guerilla
movement.

Instead, official Israeli documents used "campaign" or "fighting,"
even though Israeli media and the public spoke almost from the outset
of a war.

While some dictionaries strictly define war as an armed conflict
between states or nations, broader understandings include combat
between armed groups in the definition.

Israeli officials were also initially hesitant to adopt the
popular name Second Lebanon War because the 1982 Israel-Lebanon war
is known in Israel as Operation Peace of the Galilee, not as the
First Lebanon War.

The name is due to be brought before Israeli Prime Minister Ehud
Olmert's cabinet for final approval Sunday.

More than 1,200 Lebanese and 159 Israelis died in the war, which
erupted after Hezbollah abducted two Israeli soldiers in a July 12
cross-border raid.

Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes on southern Lebanon and
Beirut during the offensive, while Hezbollah fired more than 3,000
Katyusha missiles at northern Israel.

I also only can answer with sarcasm to this.

What I have read it seems even worse, that in fact there has been a constant war. Nobody calls the 1982 bombing of the Iraqi nuclear facility a Israel-Iraq-war, nobody talks about an Israel-Syria, Israel-Jordan war, which in fact would have turned into huge wars if those countries had better weapons and allies. When I was a kid, I remember how adults talked about the 6-day war, how intelligent and tactical Israel fought, how they bombed the entire Egyptian air force while those fighter planes were still on the ground.

Today, I have huge difficulties to learn the real background and reasons. How can it be that history is still written by the winners? How can it be, we have telephones and cameras, film-archives and international laws, how can it be. This Israeli ministerial panel is doing it right now, writing history. Wrong history, twisted history.

I am my savior

What annoys and angers me is how everything is 'So Right' and 'Cool'
with them. It's like anything they do they justify it to be good when its not.

Those who are responsible for these illegal activites need to be blown to smithereens
im getting sick of these zionist homo scumbags!

Indeed Phil999 it is an ongoing war and its been going on and on and on
for thousands of years, I dont know how much of this I can take anymore.

First of all in the 6-day War... Israel did not have any ALLIES... The Arab countries had the Soviets backing them totally up. The arab coutries were flying MIGs which were at the time the most advanced fighter in the world.

Israel was and is a very small country with a small amount of people. At the time Israel only had a population of 2.5 Million people...

The arabs do not have common sense and do not understand that war has to be fought with a brain not mite.

How can you explain the Yom Kippur War. When Egypt was considered one of the most powerful Armies in the World. Egypt bought a ton of Anti-Aircraft Missles and still Israel figured out away to bypass these brand new machines. The Arab countries always had the Soviets backing them up...So please do not say Israel had an advanced army at the time. If the Soviets were not backing all these arab countries during communist times we would have peace in the world from all over.
