State Law Would Require ID to Buy Baking Soda
A Missouri state legislator has introduced a bill that would require shoppers in the "Show Me" state to show somebody their photo-ID when buying baking soda. Yes, plain old everyday baking soda . Missouri bill calls for crackdown on sale of ... baking soda By Derek Kravitz POST-DISPATCH JEFFERSON CITY BUREAU 04/05/2007 JEFFERSON CITY First, the state said you must make a special trip to the pharmacy counter to buy certain cold medicines. That was to curb production of methamphetamine. Now, a St. Louis legislator wants you to do the same thing to buy an even more common household item baking soda because it's used to make crack cocaine. Sales of cold medications containing pseudoephedrine, such as Sudafed, are strictly regulated in Missouri. Customers must show a photo ID when they buy the medicine. Pharmacists must log the names and addresses of buyers, including how much they buy. People under 18 may not buy the medicines. The sponsor of the baking soda bill, Rep. Talibdin El-Amin, D-St. Louis, said the same approach was needed for baking soda because crack cocaine is often produced by.... I wonder if they are trying to condition us to pull out our I.D.s everytime we go through the checkout line. Quite the leap, but it was my first thought.

What a paranoid and delusional society we live in.
On one hand if you want toxic, life-threatening drugs you go to the pharmacist, but somehow we bought into the idea that these drugs are "safe". I am anti-drug, however those on the street are probably less toxic than those behind the counter at the local pharmacy. There are an estimated 6,000 illegal drug deaths a year. There are 10s of 1000s of prescription drug related deaths a year. Below is an example, reference "adverse reactions to prescription drugs" and is grossly under-estimated. Often someone may die of a heart attack, for example, due to an adverse reaction to the plethora of prescription drugs that are mixed together, meanwhile their death is ruled a heart attack. http://www.reconsider.org/issues/public_he...ted_deaths_.htm clusty: iatrogenics disease Best if we put the baking soda next to the "safe" drugs. Blessed [are] the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matt 5:9 KJV Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? Gal 4:16 KJV &The most dangerous man,to any government,is the man who is able to think things out for himself... Almost inevitably,he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable.& -H.L Mencken |

Thats awsome, but the anti-drug people say this is proof that making drugs illegal works.
This really hits close to home for me because last year a family member of mine died from using his perscribtion meds as perscribed. I can not allaberate because the case is still in court, but I really agree with you rock... to a point. |

Thank you for your concern!
Back on the topic of legislating the control everyday things: What really pisses me off is that someone can go to a doctor a get the hormones to switch sexes, but smoking pot is dangerous. (This has absuloty nothing to do with what killed my relitive, I just wanted to make that crystel clear. Some of you have dirty minds, I know I do) Don't get me wrong this is suppose to be a free county so if someone wants a sex change let them do it, but we have people in prision for pot. Are we collectively crazy? Whats next banning spoons and light bulbs? People use them wrong too sometimes. Where do you draw the line? They are just hitting us with little incriments in every aspect of our lives towards a dictatorship. (Not that we don't already live in one, I'm starting to think so) How is it that some people can't see it? You'd have to deside not to see to not see it. I know I'm preaching to the chior, but I want it known where I stand. Legalize Marijuana! |

Want to know something really funny and ironic? I can go right now to a website I know and order Polonium-210, uranium, and ammonium nitrate and have them sent it to me. Yet, in Missouri I might soon not be able to get baking soda without an ID. That's pretty paranoid and pretty fucked up.
And no, don't legalize marijuana. We don't need more disillusionment. |

Quote:Best if we put the baking soda next to the "safe" drugsI'd be happier with it in the baking aisle, next to the flour and sugar. Quote:... legislating the control everyday things:collectively crazy, agreed. Everyday that's baking soda alright, definitely not a drug of any type. I use it everyday to brush my teeth and clean things. Put it in my bath sometimes, it's great if you have heartburn, and lets not forget how good it works if you should happen to have a grease fire, puts it right out. Happened to me once, grabbed the soda and the situation was under control. Add vineger and you can even help speed a slow drain.
