Not all of your ancient indigenous populations were in tune with a false idolatry. There was always a Holy and unholy (idolatrous) spirit on the earth and I am so sure an ashtray could serve the same purpose as any other of the myriad forms of idolatry and someone could get siddhis off it.

Achetype, force...there are alot of ashtrays, hence they could be very powerful sources...

At least true chaos magicians are creative and just don't follow the hive mentality.
