Barcode hacking, is it possible?
I downloaded this piece of software called Barcode Producer. In short it´s software to produce barcodes for your shop: http://www.intellisw.com/barcodeproducer...shots.html

I´m wondering if it´s possible to produce barcodes you can stick on products you buy from your local supermarked (to make the products cheaper)? Anyone here have info on this?

It's SUPER easy. Go to a store, copy down the code of a cheaper cereal (or whathaveyou) and go home and plug those numbers into a barcode soft or a barcode website and save the image. Just print it on Avery stickers. That's it. You know what to do next... Any dumbass can do it.

EDIT: I should also mention that this is highly illegal and you could end up with a criminal record for trying to save few bucks. I wouldn't do this.

Aren't barcodes just serial numbers which correspond to inventory numbers etc?

Therefore if the shop assistant is watching the checkout display and they swipe a product and it comes up with a different product name, then either their inventory is messed up or they'll know you are scamming them?

I agree when it comes to being sort of a dumbass thing to do for your own benefit. But .. again strickly theoretical .. It could be an effective tool to f**** up the prises in a store or chain of stores you for some reason dislike.

Hehe... play the modern day Robin Hood:).

Random Acts of Kindness... the way to change the World.

BTW, this practice will be impossible if they succeed in implementing RFID in retail stores:(
