A scenario I've thought of...

An offshore not for profit charity sets up user accounts which would allow employee's anywhere in the world to signup for an account. The workers would instruct their employers that they wish to have their salaries paid out to their charity account so as to no longer legally be receiving a paycheck. In essence they are donating their time via the charity to the company that is using their labor.

The employees receive an ATM/credit card usable anywhere in the world.

When tax time rolls around the workers put income as zero. No more taxes, ever.

Need more details?

1. the company that the employee works at, *donates* whatever the salary of the employee is; to the charity.
2. the charity receives the money into the employees account.
3. the employee uses the atm card and goes shopping or whatever.
4. at tax time the employee can report zero income.
5. the benefit for the employer is that they can claim the donations at tax time and get tax breaks of their own.

Whats in it for the charity? How does it pay its bills?
The charity would be only a couple people, and could charge a low ($5) maintenance fee per account or something...

So is there something like this already out there or what?

The structure of capitalism is flawed. The motor that powers it cannot but vastly increase the disparity between the poor and the rich globally and within countries as well. Parecon is a brave argument for replacing that flawed machine and offers a much needed -- more equitable, democratic, participatory -- alternative economic vision.

Dr. Hermann Oberth who pioneered rocket design for the German Reich during World War II and later advanced rocket technology for the American manned space launches, cryptically stated: "We cannot take the credit for our record advancement in certain scientific fields alone; we have been helped."

When asked by whom, he replied: "The people of other worlds."

I don't know of anything currently, but this tax haven type of thing was addressed in the fictional work of William Gibson. He also did some data have things as well. I think it's a great idea.

Easy Skanking - could you please provide the name for the work of William Gibson that you mentioned ?

Seems like a genuinely interesting read.

Thanks.

Im pretty sure thats Neuromancer. But, even if it not, you should read it anyways. Cyberpunk is the coolest thing ever.

I don't recall which books they were mentioned in. Probably all of them in some fashion or another. The whole society forms the backstory in his novels dealing with tax havens, data havens, corporate wars, pop culture phenomena, virtual communities, online second lives, the merger of virtual and real worlds and human relation to all of this inside a dark techno-nightmare. If you like sci-fi and want to see where we are in part going, read all of his books. When I first read them, I recognized that he had spookily predicted where we will wind up as a techno world. Gibson himself described his fictional world as taking our world and turning it up to 10.

After you read his works, this docu-interview wiht him is an interesting insight into what he thinks about the intersection of his works and real life: "No Maps For These Territories"
Excellent stuff from William Gibson!

Legal or extralegal, it's a brilliant concept IMHO.
