Mattel Toys in Israel Have No Lead Paint

Israeli parents who are worried that they may have possibly bought dangerous toys containing lead paint can relax: Tests conducted by the Israel Standards Institute on Mattel toys taken from store shelves show that all of the products meet the safety standards.

U.S. toymaker Mattel ordered a recall in the last week of its Polly Pocket and Barbie dolls and sets and those of Tanner (Barbie's dog) and other items made in China due to the use of lead paint and tiny magnets that could be swallowed by children.

Less than two weeks ago, Mattel was also forced to recall other Chinese-made toys such as Dora the Explorer and Big Bird and Elmo dolls over concerns about lead paint used on the toys.

The test results here were announced yesterday by the Industry and Trade Ministry, which said none of the products tested contained lead paint.

Standards Institute inspectors said suspect items were removed from store shelves immediately after Mattel's announcement of the recall.

The ministry emphasized yesterday that while in the U.S. and Europe, toy imports are allowed entry into the country on the basis of the manufacturer's claims, but here in Israel the Standards Institute tests samples of all imported toys.

difficult to say which conclusion is right. Anyway, it is always good to be open how to interpret news and leave multiple conclusion options open.
Sadly it is known that big corporations sometimes show cruelty and naked lust for profit when they ship harmful products they can't sell anymore in their preferred markets to remote areas. Cases are known of radioactive milk-powder in Nepal and old medicaments in Africa, and I won't be surprised if there are maybe thousands of other cases not reported.

I wouldn't worry so much about Barbies in Israel... I heard the most popular game over there is Monopoly.

Their version not only has all the Israeli streets, it also has the streets from all the other popular boards in the world too, so they can own everything from Broadway to Mayfair.

Not only can you build houses and hotels, you can also destroy neighbouring squares houses and build partition walls :biggrin:

Very revealing isn't it, wonder where else lies the special without lead paint top shelf stock OR denials of its existence in their respective countries.

(Bet their hotel toothpaste is of good quality too, perhaps they just know where and where not to buy products from.)

Perhaps the Mattel toys taken off the shelves in UK in their thousands don't contain lead paint either and the story is just some sort of scam to deliver a big kick at the Chinese?

Since there seems to be so many sad stories of the outcome of counterfeits in China affecting the Chinese people adversely, seems to me that it is only organized evil utilizing garden variety evil to its own ends, sorry didn't mean to imply an entire country consisted of only garden variety evil.

That is food for thought Rosebery, because this whole 'China is a manufacturing cesspool' has always been known to the media and industry. Why have the media decided this is the time to go full bore and expose one horror after another? I've been thinking about this for a bit and if we reflect on China becoming a Superpower that will rival the US and their ability to jettison the dollar and drop the bottom out as well as convert their oil payments to Iran specifically into the Euro or the Yen from the Dollar, and I think there are some significant items that would make them a perceptual threat. Also, China is strategically placing themselves in Africa to steal negotiate for oil resources there. Factor in China and Russia doing joint war games earlier this week and you have the makings for a WW III. So the US might have launched economic warfare against China through a concerted media campaign against the goods they manufacture for the avaricious proprietors of Scumcorps USA.
