Still doesn't change the fact that its a form of spiritual exclusivity for those of us who reject the dogma and mythology of christianity as just that. The reason the Jews claimed they were the chosen people was basically for the same reason's christians claim it, ie "God gave us a Book".
That's where the very idea comes from in the first place.

Not only that, "becoming christian" by that verse above means "being adopted" into a promise "god" made with the patriarch of "the jews" so in that respect all it did was open up the conversion rates to the same essential belief system and mythology. Less exclusive perhaps, but still elitist and exclusionary.

It is by proxy though, based on that verse you posted. "By adoption" and guess what, Judaism already had that option (conversion) in the first place, so it wasn't exclusively racial to begin with anyways.
