Them ice road guys are a bunch of assholes.
What I mean is, they think their special because they drive on ice.... so what? So do I. Granted, I may not fall through it and drown, but as for driving skill, ice is ice. They may have a more dangerous job, and then again, maybe not... they have no cliffs to drive over, far less risk of a head on collision, and FWIW, if I hit another truck with the weight shown in the pics above, NOBODY survives.

I don't like livestock haulers either.... their shit laden trailers stink up truck stops and they drive like a bunch of yahoos. They think pulling cows makes them cowboys. I was pulling lumber but I don't think it makes me a lumber jack.

Jesus H Christ Mike, I'm glad you survived.... I bet with the ditches leveled to the road with snow it wouldn't surprise me if you weren't the first rig driver having an accident. With roads like that driving is fucking treacherous.

Hope you have a quick recovery.

I'm not the first. The staff at the lumber yard told me I was the second guy to do it in the same spot in 4 years.

Two lifts broke open, the rest of the lumber is fine but the goofball receiver is refusing to accept even the good lumber. It'll be auctioned off I guess.

Glad to hear you didn't suffer too bad m8.

I had my first serious crash about 3 months ago and was also very glad not to get injured.

I was driving a transit van, it had been raining hard and there was still a little spray. I was coming down a dual carriageway at about 60-70 MPH overtaking lorries.
There was a slight right hand turn (we drive on left) and a bridge in a slight dip. As I came round the bend there was a HUGE puddle about 20M long just after the bridge, covering the whole lane that I was in. I wouldn't have had time to swerve even if the lorries weren't on my left.

All I could do was lift off the gas and let it hit the puddle. Unfortunately because I was going round a bend the van carried on turning through the puddle. When I exited the puddle the van had turned about 30 to 40DEG to the right and of course it then gripped and even with the front wheels facing to the left a bit I couldnt stop it slamming into the central reservation.
It then skidded along the barrier and very scarily the front left wheel began to dig into the mud, for a second i thought it was going to tip. Luckily the back of the van wasnt being slowed and the van span instead of tiping. I am not totally sure but i think it span 500DEG in total. I finished spinning facing towards the way I came and a little towards the barrier. I slammed on the brakes as I was travelling backwards and finished still in my lane.

I don't think I have ever been so relieved as when I looked up and there wasn't a lorry coming towards me. It wouldnt start so I jumped out and headed straight for the gap between the barriers, as I got out a police car was pulling up.

It turned out they had spotted the car that had come through before me while on a call to a crash and had turned round at the next round-a-bout to head back as the puddle was still dangerous. They were two vehicles behind me and watched me crash. They were able to verify that it wasn't my fault. They found that a drain near the bridge had become blocked with rubbish and mud, 5 mins after he cleared it the puddle was gone. If I was injured I could have sued the highways agency.

I wrote off the van and broke the metal barrier, but didn't even have a bruise. I was VERY lucky though as i think of the many things that could have made it a lot worse.

Sorry to hijack the thread but your experiences of relief about having your first serious accident and getting out (reasonably) OK, reminded me soo much of what I went through.

It's not hijacking... if someone wants to share a bad experience go for it.

I just got a call from my boss in the midst of this post... they're sending out unit 482 on a drop deck, then putting unit 484 (the wrecked one) in its place. The driver who brought out 482 will haul mine back for repairs, and I will use 482 to go get the trailers I toppled.

That's funny, Phil. I've never heard that song before and I even lived on Monteagle mountain.

:LOL:There ain't nothing quite like the event of a genuine foreigner educating a genuine domestic about the latter's own country and culture....

All jokes aside, I've known Johnny Cash basically all my life through my parents' love for American Country music but I really started to appreciate Cash after seeing this woefully romantic biographic flick called Walk the Line.
