What are you reading
Dandelion Wine, Ray Bradbury

Quote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dandelion_Wine

Farewell Summer is a direct continuation of the plot of Dandelion Wine, Something Wicked This Way Comes, a novel with a completely different plot and characters, is often paired with the latter because of their stylistic and thematic similarities. Together, the three novels form a Green Town trilogy

Farewell Summer, Ray Bradbury

Quote:...A touching meditation on memories, aging, and the endless cycle of birth and death, and a fitting capstone, perhaps, to a brilliant career."

[edit] History
In the afterword to Farewell Summer, Bradbury ... contends that the novel was actually intended to follow what became the Dandelion Wine story arc as a complete book tentatively titled Summer Morning, Summer Night

Hey Serial, nothing against you, but I have a special hatred in my heart for Ray Bradbury.

I've had to read many of his books, Fahrenheit 451, The Illustrated Man, etc. and I find him to be of the worst kind of future post-apocalyptic sci-fi genre. I've found him to be a conservative, if not reactionary, ageist, always squarely placing the blame for the ruined future on 1) the youth, and 2) the loss of contemporary values.

Just the way I see it. Perhaps those are better books. I just had to read The Illustrated Man in eighth grade and I was stunned that no one else in the classroom understood that the book was essentially anti-children. I suppose you could say anti-bad parenting, but mostly it was just "the youth will destroy our civil society with their sex and bad language!"

Anyway,
peace
