RE: Let's purchase a workstation for yeti
I can't believe "TheEar" even bothered to type what he did. If YETI gets a kickass system it's all the better for us. Fewer hours for YETI waiting for things to happen. Two Screens for ease of use and sanity is a given, and why have a fast motherboard with outdated hard drives or a 16bit Graphics card? Upgrade the lot or not at all. Let's save money with a ball mouse as well.
Anyway $50 Chipin sent. |

This was my first computer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRS-80_Color_Computer 16k extended basic LOL

YOU GUYS AIN'T TOO CHEAP." ![]() yeti Wrote:In my experience, the PSU should be at the top of that list. Motherboards should also be on there. I've never personally replaced a hard drive, CPU, or video card because of failure. Professionally (working for Compaq) only the higher speed SCSI drives under heavy use were prone to failure. I've replaced CPUs, PSUs and hard drives. One HD in particular was weird because it was running extremely slow. I succeeded in formatting it and was installing windows. Twelve hours later it hadn't finished installing lol. I still have it (250 GB). I've always wondered if it was possible to repair it. |

My dad had a Model III which I took over from him, but my first was a Tandy 1000 with TWO floppy drives and a 300 baud modem!!! You could literally see the characters coming in on the screen. RE: Let's purchase a workstation for yeti
You shouldn't have updated your address at the same time. They will drag it on as long as they can. (usury).
Keep on top of it Mike and it should be resolved in a few days. P.S. I think I never thanked you for putting up this site so I am doing it now. Thanks man! WWAAVVE.

RE: Let's purchase a workstation for yeti
Wow some other people that started out with a CoCo. I had a 4Kb box with chiklet keyboard that I piggybacked d-ram on to get it up to 64Kb and wrote drivers to page out the memory. Then later upgraded to newer units CoCo 64 etc as they came out. Then went to the T-1000 as well as Apple ][ clones, IBM clones etc. T-1000 ended up becoming a Fidonet Node for a couple of years. If things go down the tubes with the Internet, we may be back to Fidonet
![]() Those were the days. Have you considered this configuration? I use one of these for all of my I.T. Lab work and it's been powerful enough to do just about anything. (Not sure why you need such a hot graphics card for forum development work though )http://www.cdw.ca/shop/products/HP-ProLi...02282.aspx 2x http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...D-2000EARS VMWare ESXi (Free) Subscribe to Microsoft Technet ($199 will get you just about every server/app they have with multi legal license keys) Add whatever memory you need (I have more than 10 MS, Linux servers and several Desktop OSs running on 12Gb) Add whatever two monitors you need Add decent dual-head graphic card (does not need to be a gamer card) This machine includes 1 year on-site warranty. Swordfish Wrote:I remember when we sent letters and talked to people We are communicating in a more efficient way on the internet and we share ideas with one another. I'm sure that in this context it's even better because whether we like to admit it or not, we tend to not speak with some people because of the way they look or whatever. In this manner of communicating that is not a problem. JMHO. P.S, I talk to my neighbors nearly every day and still have "physical" friends. As an added bonus, I have you guys.

Quote:Swordfish Wrote:I remember when we sent letters and talked to people@zapoper: I was making the comment in jest though my experience is that some technology prevents proper communication. I see groups of kids all the time sat with "real" friends but taking no notice of each other because they are texting, "twittering" or facebooking their cyber "friends". It seems that cyber friends are more of a commodity as it becomes a competition to see who has the most so they can poke each other.... Remember you are unique ...just like everyone else. |
