Top 10 Free Video Rippers, Encoders, and Converters
Lots of good stuff mentioned with it's share of duds but overall a great reference, check the comments section as well for a few gems. I haven't tried even 20% of these freeware apps. Post this thread for reviews.
http://lifehacker.com/software/lifehacke...316478.php My favorite freeware encoding apps are AutoGK + TMPGEnc + VirtualDub (DVD Ripping / encoding for perfect 2 pass XVid AVIs). TagScanner is a great ID3 tag editor (mp3s). Audacity for editing and clipping audio (mp3+). For Burning DVDs I just purchased an easy to use great one ConvertXtoDVD 3, not too much in the customizable DVD menus though (templated) but if you find a decent freebie or even a reasonably priced one let us know! I have yet to find a really good freeware YouTube / Online Video and audio stream ripper, but DownloadHelper will do for now. I have yet to find a jackknife video conversion tool for wmv / mp4 >> AVI/XVid, preferably batch. If the task is ripping mp3 or clips from video sources only I use VLC or KMPlayer and they work just fine but only in real time. There are no others, there is only us. http://FastTadpole.com/ |

I use Audacity too.
I also recommend ffmpeg and mencoder, all free encoding software. Avidemux as a video editing and converter tool. Easytag for tagging. |

Thanks for the link FT. I use ConvertXtoDVD too.

RE: Top 10 Free Video Rippers, Encoders, and Converters
I needed to convert it to wmv. I downloaded a converter but every five seconds afterward, my video footage would pop-up on the video screen saying that i used an unactivated program. So many video file formats, so many hand held video players, so many on line video sites, and so little time.
