It's either the mobo or the cpu.

Get a new intel core2duo system. They're very fast and run really cool compared to previous intels. I'm liking mine and I'm a prior AMD user.

I do custom builds for friends and relatives. If we're talking desktop we could do some parts talk/debate, and get you the best for your hard earned cash.

At a cyber cafe now to get details on the car show I'm supposed to be at tomorrow in Edmonton... figured I'd sign on here too.

Not sure when I'll be back but it will likely be a few days, hold the fort, keep fighting.

That's fucked up Mike, we'll continue to fight to fight. Good luck buying a new computer. And errr.. I'm no expert when it comes to cars and fast cars but I'd say keep an eye on your front-tires. It looks that at least one of the them could use a little air. Or is it one of those traction-to-the-road things?

Mike, I told you that C64 wasn't going to last you forever! Maybe now you can use this as an excuse to finally get a DVD burner. BTW, newegg.com is one of the better places to order PC parts from, although I'm not sure how much the shipping might add to it since you're in Canada. May just be better off buying a pre-built one in the store.

There's some really good deals out there right now. You sound like a laptop kinda guy. I hate them myself. Nothing like a good custom built desktop. I guess if I could build my own laptop I might like em better.

A steal of a deal at $114.50 Don't let the low clock speed fool you. Most will hit 3.0gHz.
The higher multiplier of the e4300 lets you use ddr667 which is very reasonable and still get over 3.0
If you can get one of these to hit 3.0 it will perform on par with the E6800 which is about $700 or more.
This chip with a moderate overclock will smoke anything AMD has.

If you don't mind spending a little extra on ram this is a little better processor.

It's the new version of the e6300. It's got 4 megs of cache now like it's more expensive big brothers.
The cache doesn't make a huge difference I run an older e6300 with only 2 megs. The extra 2 only make for about a 5% performance boost. That can easily be made up by a slight clock speed increase.

This is the best deal on quality ram IMHO. This is what I run. 2 gigs of ddr800 for only $129. Wow, the price on ram has really went down.

I have an e6300 running at 400x7 (2.8) It will generally encode a feature length DVD in the same amount of time it takes to watch it. Some of the lower quality movies I have, even ones that are over 2 hrs will burn in 10 or 20 minutes, that's with re-encoding them to dvd too, plus it's dual core so you can use your computer at the same time. These new core2duo's with a decent overclock encode like nothing else.
