Unfortunately Kachinas aren't so "indigenous" after all -- this is a post I made on http://ufomystic.com a few days ago:

I googled “kachinas and sex magic” and found a fascinating recent book on Elsie Clews Parsons, wherein page 228 or so focuses on Parson’s 1928 anthropology study:

“Spanish Elements in the Kachina Cult of the Pueblos.”

Parsons details how Spanish saint veneration was “assimilated” into Pueblo culture and then reemerged through the Kachinas.

I find this post-Spanish “transformation” of indigenous cultures to be the case throughout most of Latin America. Fortunately Martin Pretchel’s book “Secrets of the Talking Jaguar” is a very amazing peak into a culture completely based on gender-induced spirit communication, using poetic music.

Too bad this unique preservation of pre-Colombian spirit communication was subjected to another evangelical genocidal “conversion” soon after Pretchel was trained as a shaman.
