I have been experiencing problems accessing and browsing The Pirate Bay for quite a few weeks. I am wondering if I have a virus preventing me from accessing it, or if the problem is with the site itself.

Is anyone else experiencing problems with TPB? Does anyone know what the situation is with it, and whether or not these latest problems are to do with the recent sale of the site and transfer in ownership?

It's working fine for me. Once in a great while I have a hard time connecting, but it usually goes away within a few minutes.

I had some problems for a while and wasn't even able to re-register for some weeks (only tried a handful times) but seems okay now

No probs here.

The Pirate Bay - mastermg - 10-21-2009 10:44 PM

Wasn't it transferred over to another company?

The Pirate Bay - JFK - 10-21-2009 11:03 PM

Yes it was sold to another company...

At the moment I can not access either Piratebay or it's companion forum http://forum.suprbay.org/

It was working rather smoothly earlier today.

The Pirate Bay - mastermg - 10-21-2009 11:06 PM

Yeah its not working with me either.

The Pirate Bay - rsol - 10-22-2009 02:24 AM

ditto. certain isps are not allowing access?

The Pirate Bay - Easy Skanking - 10-22-2009 02:51 AM

It's since stopped being available for me now. It was fine until you all brought it up!!! I hold you all responsible.:P

My ISP (Telus Communications Canada) did not allow access to TPB trackers although the http:// site is open and you get seeds via other open trackers on most torrents and peer exchange and DHT can help you connect as well.

If you are having problems you could try their open tracker IP address 95.211.101.132 and change the to see if you can work around a DNS filter but your ISP would likely close off this hole

substitute
http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org:80/announce
with
http://95.211.101.132:80/announce

At least for now, as IPs are not always static.

You can also test this with a ping command in the MSWin / DOShell cmd prompt to see if you get a reply from the domain open.tracker.thepiratebay.org or the IP itself.

Code:
ping open.tracker.thepiratebay.org
ping 95.211.101.132

The site did not sell. The deal fell through.

TPB has it's servers in Poland now, and a major part of the routing was through the Netherlands. That changed as the Dutch government is very hard on file sharing. That said the government and media industry types got the third party Dutch ISP carrier via their backbone to ban all TPB traffic. This is the first time that I know of where a site was was blocked from passing through a network.

In addition Demonoid is down too. :(

The Pirate Bay - icosaface - 10-22-2009 02:51 PM

It is back online now.

The Pirate Bay - qbone - 10-23-2009 01:47 PM

And Demonoid & 1337x are still out, I really do miss those sites.

The Pirate Bay - FastTadpole - 10-23-2009 06:11 PM

On the bright side it has allowed other trackers and engines to fill in the gap and opened the door for other new private and public tracker communities like hexagon.cc to take a slice of the pie as well. Numbers from a lot of open trackers are up like open-tracker-project.org, publicbt.com, denis.stalker.h3q.com, openbittorrent.com and bittorrent.am to name just a few. The outage has just diversified the p2p community which can't be a bad thing, so once demonoid is back we'll be stronger than ever.

Oh and TPB should be safe from any future raids here:
