40,000 Us Military Have Deserted - waxzy - 08-08-2006 02:15 PM 40,000 US Military Have Deserted Since Beginning Of 'War On Terror' *SNIP* Some 40,000 armed forces members have deserted from the US military since the year 2000, with many believing that the war in Iraq is illegal. The Pentagon disputes the figures but an attorney representing an objector says that this is not unusual. They lied in Vietnam with the amount of opposition to the war and theyre lying now. he claims. Some deserters seek sanctuary in Canada and are requesting that they be allowed to remain there. Their actions echo resistance to the Vietnam war when approximately 50,000 Americans turned to their northern neighbour for legal residency. Critics say that volunteers have no choice but to fight in a war which is determined by politicians. *SNIP* Full Story: http://www.airforcetimes.com/story.php?f=1...925-1930387.php 40,000 Us Military Have Deserted - Keen - 08-08-2006 05:06 PM Critics can say what they want, but they are dead wrong, as they are obviously ignorant of the situation. Those that volunteered were fed the constant war-mongering/fear/hatred for the so called War on Terror. The armed services are there to make men and women into killing machines and to follow the rhetoric of whoever ordered them to war. Those that have left the army by honorable discharge due to objection to the war/killing of innocent life and those that have deserted with the opinion of the Iraq war being illegal should be equally commended. Even though they may have bought into the whole mess after 9/11, there are many soldiers that have learned the truth for themselves and they should be commended for that. I remember in my senior year of high school in a bogus civics/econonomics class, we were to comment on certain images. One such image was from the vietnam war era and it showed a guy protesting while holding his draft card. The die-hard "republicans" and bushites (who think they are conservatives, but they were not), actually commented by simply saying, "coward." Others called it bravery. I have also personally met a veteran from the first Gulf War. And he actually suffers from the harmful effects of depleted uranium. Essentially, his entire close family were also harmed by it, including his new born children. He also related his experiences during actual combat and at one point during a mission, he came across a dug-out with completely scared Iraqi soldiers that were literally pissing themselves and crying. He almost killed them, but he didn't (they never raised their weapons). He thanked god for making the right decision during that moment (he was fighting back tears when relating that moment). 40,000 Us Military Have Deserted - Neoconned - 08-15-2006 06:13 AM Quote:Critics can say what they want, but they are dead wrong, as they are obviously ignorant of the situation. Most of these Bushites wouldn't know just what to do if they were actually called up in a Draft! They will know soon enough because when we attack Syria and Iran the draft is coming back!! |
