Hi you guys, hope this is the place for help. ive been with concen for a few mths, but only started uploading a few weeks ago, like a new girlfriend, it all started off good, i downloaded loads and up'd about 8 different torrents using bit torrent. i had it going perfect, then, the next day i up'd a torrent and it was downloading not seeding. i know a fair bit and i was up til 6am trying to find out what was wrong. ive tried everything. I create a torrent with bit torrent with the "announce" tracker, upload, then i re download and i save it in the same place as the source file. and when i re-download it does have my pass key, ive checked. what ive noticed is that, the file i re-download with my pass key has this [1] in the file name, it didnt have that before, and when i save this file with the source file, i then have 2 torrent files (the one i created and the one i re-download, the latter having the [1] added to the file name) and this never used to happen before, i just used to have the source file and the torrent file, this has something to do with the problem. can someone please help, ive got lots of good stuff i want to get up and start seeding,. sorry for the long post.
Hang in there, cleanshirt, someone will along to help:)

Do you actually have space on the drive you are trying to save to or create the torrent file on? What browser are you using to download the torrent file with? The [1] indicates to me that the torrent file has been duplicated for some reason, try renaming it to remove the [1] or try to download the torrent file into an empty directory and load it into your client from there.
Do a search for files with the same name of the torrent, if you did not specify the torrent name in the upload page it may have defaulted to something non-unique. If you are trying to seed torrents which you have previously removed from the client try looking for the old torrent file instead of downloading it again. You appear to have uploaded 8 torrents but are currently transfering none of them, they do seem well seeded without you, though.

hi, thanks for getting back so soon, yeah i have loads of room on my h/drive 200gig, and the [1] in the redownload happens with any file i try.
i'm not seeding my files anymore because i uninstalled bit torrent and moved my files around (they were well seeded) in an attempt to start a fresh. ive logged out, changed my client to u torrent and its still doing the same thing, ive tried changing the file name etc.. what i haven't tried is downloading the torrent with my pass key, and saving it to a different folder. I think what was happening before was, i create a torrent, upload it, and when i redownload it, it merges with the torrent file i created, because i would only have one torrent file next to the source file. Now when i download, its as if the torrent with the passkey i redownload is not merging with the created torrent file, therefore is puting the [1] on it to distinguish it from the created torrent. (hope you understood all that)lol
ps, i seem to be having trouble downloading from the tracker aswell, bit torrent shows i'm d/loading but its not actually doing anything. its nearly 3am, time for bed, catch up 2moro.

Your torrent file should not be in the same directory as the data.It may be that your problem is that the downloaded torrent with the passkey is in a temporary folder created by your browser and you are trying to seed the original torrent which will not work. Do a search for .torrent files and see if this is the case. If the file you are trying to load into your client isn't in this form
Code:
2006 UFO Conference -Jaime Maussan[tracker.conspiracycentral.net].torrent
it is the wrong one. If you are putting the [tracker.conspiracycentral.net] into the torrent filename before uploading that is counter-productive but it does not appear you are doing this.
Also check your client to see what torrents are already loaded and make sure that the uploaded torrent is not active.

hi, yes that is whats happening, the downloaded torrent is in a temp folder and it seems i am seeding the original. when you say "Your torrent file should not be in the same directory as the data". by data do you mean the source file or the torrent created by my client.? for some reason i thought i had to keep all the files in the same folder so it can seed. ?

For my client I download .torrent files into a watch directory which holds only torrents so my client automatically loads whatever is saved there. the actual data files, the movies or whatever go into their own directory and they are kept separate. When you create a torrent and upload it to the tracker, because it is a private tracker, it is no longer of any use unless you wish to upload it to a different tracker. This is because you need the passkey to be added which is done when you subsequently download the torrent. The torrent file you created and the torrent file you download differ only by the passkey but it is that which allows the tracker to credit the transfer to you. Everyone who downloads the torrent has a different passkey. This is how all private trackers work. Public trackers would just give your original uploaded torrent file to whoever wanted it.

It doesn't really matter if you leave the torrent file you create in the same directory except if you create another torrent out of the same directory it will contain the first torrent among the data if you are not careful..

If you are not going to upload the same torrent to a different tracker you can just delete it from your drive after you have uploaded it to concen. It is of no more use.

You can create a torrent from several different directories but it is better to have them all in the same general location. I was talking about the torrent file as opposed to the actual content the torrent file tells the client how to transfer.

ok, i've just tried it again, i up'd my torrent, then, before i redownloaded the torrent (with my pass key) i went back and deleted the created torrent, then went back to [redownload now] and the file it gave me was this UFO - Pilot Sightings[1].mpg[tracker.conspiracycentral.net] i then downloaded this into the same folder as the source file (avi) and it asks if i want to run or save, i choose run and it goes straight to my client, but is d/loading not seeding. whatever i do, whatever file i do it with it, the redownload torrent always has [1] in it.???

what is your client, operating system and browser? Are you perhaps saving to a file system that uses the old dos 8.3 naming conventions whereby the full filename is not accurately being kept? Are you uploading a file that you already uploaded?

bit torrent, windows xp, WE. i dont know anything about no dos 8.3, but i dont understand coz i was uploading fine last week. yes i keep trying to up the same file but everytime it goes in the tracker and is not seeding i go to [my torrents] and delete it before anyone can try leeching. i'm thinking about doing a system restore back to last week,?

attach the torrent file to your next post maybe I'll see something...

do you have any files in the directory that might be changing between the time you upload and the time you try to download, such as thumbs.db?

i'm not sure, how do iknow if they are changing. i have a folder with about 50 avi files in there. how do i attach the file?

Change your avatar - it's very annoying.

Post the exact file names of the files that differ only by [1], and I will show you the result of you saving the same file to the same directory. Stop doing that, and your 'problem' will go away...

your avi files are unlikely to change. It sounds to me like you have a bunch of avi files in the same directory as a bunch of torrent files for them. This can be particularly confusing when you have the folder view option to hide extensions. if the torrent file and the avi file have the same name you might be trying to make a torrent of the torrent file instead of the avi and naming it the same as it is currently named. When you get that [1] in a file name it usually means that it is a copy of another file already in the directory. Putting all your files in one directory is kind of counter-productive when you can have a separate folder for each.

To attach a file to a forum post you need to use the full comment form and not the quick one. You will see below the text area to the right of the screen a browse button and an upload button. Browse to the file and then upload it.
