The whole left-right divide was something i though jones had at least understood. i think his well has been poisoned for quite a while.
To take a simple speech so totally out of context smacks of it. Its a shame. Although i like Jones, i think he has been out there so long that every avenue to information has been compromised.
Jones is a sensationalist. He'll spin any story he can into another example of how they're preparing to kill or enslave us.
His crap about how the queen shut down parliament because she didn't want bills passed that diminished her power was total crap, but it didn't stop him bullying, hanging up on, and lecturing Canadians who tried to set him straight. As far as he was concerned, we are just sheeple who know far less about our own country's parliament than he does.
Jones' bullshit covered up the fact that Stephen Harper was shutting down Parliament to avoid being voted out of office, a disgusting act that despite massive outrage by the people, he seems to have gotten away with in the long run.
So Jones' show is more entertaining when he ratchets up the fear porn, but his disinformation when repeated by his trusting fans discredits them and the movement as a whole.
Taking Jones' word on something could make you look like a fool, which is of course exactly what Big Brother wants!
It does seem a little odd for him to parrot this republican hit piece though. I think its a first incident i've seen.
Even the pundit seemed odd. The salt of it was "well i would of voted republican if it wasn't for mccain/palin"
I know he has echoed conservative conspiracy theories before (birth certificate, etc)
However i havent seen him go on a partisan ideology/misquotation. Perhaps i havent paid as much attention. I used to like jones but never thought he had all the answers from day 1. He was a constitutionalist 1st which was good enough for me. This has tainted him for me.

I haven't seen this from the Republicans. Got links?
I did go to WorldNetDaily. It looks like a site written by bible thumping anti Muslim nut cases who are so pro Israel they can't think straight. Here's an example on their front page:
which is a misquote. What did he say before that? he was talking about bridges, roads, infrastructure. He wasn't talking about the businesses themselves.
If this is in any way a misquote, then Obama misquoted himself.
Quote:What did he say before that? he was talking about bridges, roads, infrastructure.
So what? Are you actually arguing that because taxpayers paid for infrastructure that the government built someone's business? Nobody's denying that businesses require infrastructure. Obama's trying to take credit where none is due.
(07-22-2012 02:27 PM)rsol Wrote: [ -> ]He wasn't talking about the businesses themselves.
Then why did he say "If you got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."? I disagree that the government built someone's business, or made that happen. More often than not governments (especially Obams's pro Wall St. kind) get in the way of business, unless it's for their cronies.
Anyway, here is the full context:
Quote:If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you got a business—you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the internet so that all the companies could make money off the internet.
The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.
I agree with the last line, but believe that he put his foot in his mouth delivering his overall message. Anyway, coming from Obama, it's just more lip service totally out of step with his actions. And yes, I agree that the Republican meatheads are using it for all it's worth.
no. he was saying that a business man using a bridge or a road didn't build them, but needs them in order for his business to prosper. its part of a chain that make infrastructures that can help to create new businesses.
Its a simple point however with a little cut here and there it can be made to be that a small business owner didn't make his own business.
actually watch the speech in up to and leading through.
its making such a misquote as in misrepresentation, to twist, to muddle, to falsify. you know me yeti. im not one to choose my words unwisely
Its a pathetic point. and that why im annoyed at Jones for falling in there. this is like climate-gate. he beds too many of his enemies these days. i dont think he's a shill but i do think he is lost...

Dude, he said what he said. Anyone who quotes what he said is not misquoting him, despite your claim otherwise.
The fact is he misspoke. He said something stupid that a lot of people are up in arms about, and not all of them are mindless republican parrots.

Can be made? That's what he said! You can't deny that even though you're trying.

When are you going to clue into the fact that HE MISQUOTED HIMSELF? He said something stupid while trying to get the point across that I quoted above:
"when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together."
You can pretend that my opinion is a minority one, but a google search proves otherwise. Everybody's pissed off at him for saying something stupid, not just Romney.

In the context you raise, Jones has always been lost. He exaggerates and distorts reality for sensationalism, as I pointed out in my first post of this thread. He'll interview someone with similar views on one topic but radically different views on others, and has done since he started in radio.
Quote:"you can pretend that my opinion is a minority one, but a google search proves otherwise. Everybody's pissed off at him for saying something stupid, not just Romney."
I dont. It has nothing to do with it. Its the fact that you keep on repeating what he said except for the first few words ahead. That wouldnt bring the sentence into any context.
The fact that fox is splashing this out across its networks has nothing to do with its popularity? Mountains/molehills. The fact that the republicans are making this out to be more is understandable. My problem is with jones and his deciding to echo such bullshit.
"If you got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."?
rinse and repeat
"If you got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."?
rinse and repeat
"If you got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."?
now heres tom with the weather!
I prefer to debate the actual words
"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet."
Notice how he was talking about roads and bridges? or was he talking about businesses?..... this is called context...
For Jones or any pundit to pick on a sentence without bothering with the rest in disingenuous at best.

You can pretend that I did not post the entire relevant parts of his speech, but we can all see that I did. You can pretend I don't know what the context was, but my previous posts show that I do. You can pretend that Obama didn't misspeak, but it's obvious he did.
(07-23-2012 01:20 PM)rsol Wrote: [ -> ]My problem is with jones and his deciding to echo such bullshit.
I got that the first time you said it.
(07-23-2012 01:20 PM)rsol Wrote: [ -> ]Notice how he was talking about roads and bridges? or was he talking about businesses?..... this is called context...
No shit, WHICH IS WHY I POSTED THE RELEVANT PASSAGES. I don't need a lesson in what context is, but thanks anyway. He was talking about roads bridges AND businesses. Deny he was talking about businesses until you're blue in the face, I don't give a fuck. The fact is he misspoke. The fact is he's a lying scumbag who deserves to squirm as much as Romney or any of the others. The fact is there are a million real reasons to criticize Obama, so choosing this one is a great way to avoid really criticizing Obama.
(07-23-2012 01:20 PM)rsol Wrote: [ -> ]For Jones or any pundit to pick on a sentence without bothering with the rest in disingenuous at best.
Jones has been disingenuous from the very start of his career. It's a key part of his personality.
Oh no you think he means about businesses too. OK now we have our grind. Without a bridge/road that business wouldn't be there... granted. but he didn't say that the bridge builder built the business. That wouldn't make any sense.
so...No. thats bollox. watch the speech. if you have only read the speech then....
Quote:"Only if you're willing to admit that you have the intellectual capacity of a small soap dish. "
Come on hairy one.... I have the intellectual capacity of an entire large set soap dish with "his and her's" soaps and extra toothbrush holders, towel ring and shaver power socket.
