They won't take the parts back without a 20% restocking fee. I'm hoping I can use them to build another workstation. The next month or two will be critical - if I can't make a go of this through donations, I'll have to cut my losses and get a life.

Great! Why don't you take the site over then and show us all how it's done?
Web hosting is cheap. But that is with a lot of bandwidth and storage restrictions. To host a site of this size would be quite costly especially in Canada. IMO $150/month is a steal if it is a Co-Lo.
Just donated $25 via paypal.

This site has been good to me over the years with the crazy amount of stuff I've downloaded and the ideas, concepts and personalities that I would NEVER have come across in 'normal' life. It has been a real education not just for me but for the many people I've burnt discs for with material downloaded from the tracker.

Concen has all but replaced TV and radio for me, I only check out the news and the odd football game on TV and its been that way for a few years. Just earlier while having breakfast I was watching the news and they were interviewing some British MP about Libya and he was claiming they never said the Libyan mission would be quick, even though Obama initially claimed it would only be weeks. The guy also claimed the reason its taking so long is because they are only using airstrikes and no ground-troops and because they are trying to minimise civilian casualties, but they are aiming to be out by September. October will probably be the 'official' entry of ground-troops but the point I was making was that you could so clearly see the propaganda and bullshit. I have this site to thank for that.

Not just that but as I am fond of taking the piss out of the likes of David Icke, it is refreshing to see how the site has progressed over the years to virtually eliminate the disinfo ideas designed to ridicule truth. I've checked other forums out and they're a hodge-podge of crazy theories, legitimately stupid ideas, uncritical debate and insults.

Anyway I hope the site stays around for a lot longer and look forward to the new features currently in the pipeline. I don't know what the hell I'd do if the site went under, it (the tracker) has been a great 'companion' for the last 6 or 7 years.

LONG LIVE CONCEN!!!!!!!!
You might, perhaps, consider accepting bitcoin donations.
R.R, the same sentiments are felt right here my friend. And I too have all but eliminated mainstream TV (I still have a bit of a film habit though, but even then, I'm quite selective). Without concen, well, I don't know where my "first stop" every time my browser opens would be, and it's been like that for about 4 years.

I would just like to add my thanks to the work of all the admins and mods past and present as well as the uploaders who have made the site what it is today. There is something for everyone here and I think that is reflected by the wide range of opinion that has been presented here. Even if one doesn't agree with some of the content, it is great to have for educational purposes and most of it links to the big picture in some way.

I think we all have a responsibility to help in whatever way possible to keep the site going for as long as possible whether that is through donations or simply spreading the word that the site exists. I have recommended the site to many people and will continue to do so.

I think it is doubly important with some recent events, such as the proposed internet laws being discussed since wikileaks, Cass Sunstein, the controversies surrounding torrents and the latest fiasco regarding linking to certain sites and embedding videos. Who knows how long we've got left without having to worry about money?

I'm glad I backed up a ton of stuff from here.

weird. I would think someone who just embezzled the site into bankruptcy and is asking for a bailout would be a little less of a sarcastic smartass.

Yes, I'm guilty of being a smartass. Yes, I use sarcasm occasionally.

However, you've made an extremely serious (and libelous) statement which I cannot let slide.

Quote:embezzle: to appropriate (as property entrusted to one's care) fraudulently to one's own use

The computer I use to access and maintain the server (which I also own) is broken. I use that computer to develop code for the site. The computer also contains the backups of the code and database. Without that computer, ConCen is much less secure. IOW, that computer is an essential asset for the site.

Either withdraw your accusation, or prove to me and the members of ConCen how using donations to fix one of ConCen's essential assets is fraud.

I've looked into it. Currently it would be possible to do it manually via email. The automatic part would require adding a shopping cart to the site, which would mean more maintenance. I've got my ear to the ground so if circumstances change, I'll reconsider.

Throwing around unfounded accusations like that is downright wrong, and does nothing to help the community as a whole, but in fact damages it (if anyone is ignorant enough about ConCen to believe your lies).

So stikmata, clearly from your profile age, you are familiar with the fact that yeti kept the site running when it changed from ConspiracyCentral.net to ConCen.org, and that the site would have vanished if it wasn't for his efforts.

What could motivate you to add crap to the conversation? Just step up and help out.

Thanks to all those who have helped though, and of course that goes to other moderators and yeti too, I, just as much as anyone, would hate to see the site go.

(I do wonder though, how many would be posting here if this was a "Free Money" thread?)

Ooooooh! Righteous indignation!

You're right though, I'm totally mistaken. You didn't misappropriate hundreds of dollars on equipment you can't use or return or anything like that

No, I'm not familiar with all the behind the scenes drama. Though I know CtrlMike quit and relaunched the site more than a couple of times and that Yeti is not concen's savior/messiah. That's a load of bull. The ban threats are real cute too. Fuck off bum.
Given your indispensable relationship with the site, anything that makes your job easier could be defined as an asset to ConCen. What if you had the server at a colo facility nearby -- you could argue that fixing the breaks on your car was an asset to ConCen, since you couldn't travel to the server without them. At some point, it becomes absurd.

I don't know what was in the minds of the people who donated. Perhaps they are comfortable with their money having been used in this way. Isn't that really the test here? I didn't donate any money. I haven't been harmed in any way. My gift wasn't diverted from any purpose I may have had when donating.
I banned stikmata for uttering slanderous remarks and for being insolent!
