You know I'm used to hearing the alternative nut jobs talk about storing food for those inconvenient government takeovers and other miscellaneous disasters. But when the MSM starts talking about it......I start to wonder what is going on....and why.

It's no secret here on the board that I do and used to listen to all kinds of nut jobs. Those who are Mainstream and the disinformationalists. So when I hear Jones, Rense and the rest of those squareheads talk about storing food and buying gold and filter your water I consider it along with the rest of the normalcy of their shows.

But when Shaun Hannity starts doing commercials for storing food and buying generators and filtering water...."just in case of disaster" then I want to know why. Levin and Limbaugh aren't pushing it, only Hannity so far but I suspect the others won't be far behind.

Here is the site of the company that Hannity is doing the commercials for in case anyone wants to check it out.

My attitude is and always has been that these companies are government run entities. They want to know who is stockpiling and this is just one way for them to do it. The list of people who are - are in fact useful when the time comes to hit those people first and relieve them of the burden of all that extra food and supplies.

Will the people ever learn?
He's doing that because they're paying him to. I don't think he really gives a shit about food storage. He won't need to do it for himself, because he can just open his fatuous gasbag (read: mouth,) and trade food for energy.

but seriously, though, other right wing nut-jobs have done this, and it's helped raise the company's sales, so they buy spots on shows with a wider audience... seems like a relatively regular business practice that makes sense in a capitalist economy.

That's great! If Hannity's listeners get jacked by the government for their stockpiles, I'm all for it... I can't wait 'til other right-wing bobble-head blow-hards join in on the campaign.
"bobble head blowhards" rep +1
I would tend to think that the MSM doesn't want to be confused with the alternative media. I could see the commercial airing on Imus or Imus himself doing the commercial. That would make sense because even though Imus tends to the radical side of things he is bought and paid for (which all of them are anyway). But Imus is seen as a more radical radio nut job. But straight laced talking heads like Hannity and his crowd start talking about this stuff....

Yes, I can see the companies wanting the extra dollar and appealing to the wider audience means more dollars but there is a certain stigmatism that goes along with food hoarding or stockpiling. When most people think of that they automatically think "separatists" or "neo-nazi's" or "white supremacists", etc. MSM doesn't want to be seen that way since it is their job to make those types of people look like kooks.

There is more to this than just a company wanting more dollars. If the other ones start that will say it even more. You have to hear the commercial and hear what it is he is saying before blowing it off.
Yep, and Glenn Beck is advocating the purchase of gold, that's why I'm staying away from that stuff for now.
Fox is less concerned with appearances, and more concerned with market-share - Why else would they have Beck and Imus? Beck is a laughing stock to most of the (at least semi - informed) world, and Imus is an ignorant racist, but they both have huge audiences - those are pretty much the only things that companies look at when choosing who to advertise with - demographic and audience size. Although Fox definitely has an agenda with the news it chooses to cover and the perspectives it chooses to present, (and in that, it is interested in appearances,) they are certainly not bothered by associating themselves with militias, racists, or separatists in their advertising, as they, or the weekend-warrior versions of them, are the majority of their audience.

and.. oh yeah,
Hannity is straight-laced? how do you figure?
When I say "straight-laced" I mean he pushes the American family of the 1950's stereotype. Go to church, stand up straight, don't cuss, don't have bad thoughts, love your country. He tries to present a squeaky clean image....at least from where I am standing. Mr Nice Guy. Put him against people like O'Reilly, Levin, etc and they make him look like Robert (not Rebecca) of Sunnybrook Farm. He's too nice, too good, too clean cut.

It's people like him who you have to watch out for. Basically I see Hannity as a male version of Sarah Palin. Too good to be true. No one is that good, I don't care who they are.

Beck, O'Reilly, Matthews, Olbermann, Scarborough, Limbaugh etc - all of them are pretty much out front with their thing, but Hannity doesn't play it that way at all. He's much more subtle than that - I think.
That squeaky clean image flies out the window any time someone tries to challenge the guy with a cogent argument only to get talked over shouted down and have his mic cut. The guy is pretty clearly a douche - nothing subtle about that. Also if he's selling it as preparing for 'natural disasters' he's probably just tapping the vast market of Jones fans hiding in their bunkers. It's about the money. That's why he's doing it.
Well he sure as hell ain't doing it because he gives a shit. If he gave a shit he wouldn't be in the business he's in.
It could be the beginning of an attempt by TPTB to blur the lines of distinction between msm and alternative media, to sow more confusion in the public.

All the talk of attributing personal attitudes etc to msm personalities has little meaning, I think. They are all paid actors working off scripts they didn't write. You have no idea what any of them are like off camera.

Bobble head blowhards is about right, and you can have 3 guesses what and/or who they are blowing for their salaries.

eta. personally, I think a degree of disaster preparedness is prudent for all people, in all ages. Just don't think that we'll get any cues from any media about what might happen or when.
Beck is a Mormon, most Mormons stockpile food and water.....
