I thought I had uploaded a torrent this evening successfully, but apparently not. I was advised at the point before downloading the torrent to uncheck start torrent, but I cannot see anywhere on the page stating this. I tried again without success. I know I'm almost there, but missing the last stage.
Can anyone assist ?
As I posted on the torrent
Did you re-download the .torrent file once the upload completed? If you have skype I can walk you through it...
What application do you use? Utorrent tends to be the simplest for creating torrents, though not always best with other functions.
When you re-download the .torrent file, you have to, before clicking yes/continue/ok to download from your torrent program, you need to uncheck "Start Torrent" and ensure you select YOUR complete file as the location to save to.
Once there, click ok, then on your torrents list right click on the (unstarted) torrent and "Force-Re-check", it will then check the file for completion and integrity. Once fully checked, start the torrent (you can choose to "initial Seed" as well, which helpes to ensure people all get the file at the same rate, thus you will get a good amount of people complete at the same time and thus become Seeds faster.

If you answer the couple of questions if you are still stuck...I should be able to help.
I was hoping you would reply to me - thanks.
Okay, to answer your questions:
I did try to redownload the torrent file, but it had disappeared when I got there.
I used Vipe (formerly Azereus) to create the torrent
At the last stage before re-downloading the torrent, I could not see anything on the page
Start Torrent' - I did go through the process again hoping to see this, but nothing visible showing 'Start Torrent'
That is where I got lost.
If your ISP is Comcast ( mine is ) you need to enable encryption.
Comcast filters outgoing torrents.
Hi - I have tried uTorrent, but having a Mac, it appears there is no availability to make a torrent for Macs, only Pcs. Can you recommend any other software which is compatible with a Mac ?
Cheers
I have tried to whole process again using Transmission, but again no luck. It appeared on the site for a moment, but afterwards disappeared.
No I am not with Comcast - I am in Australia using a local provider. I called them and they advised that I should have been able to upload the torrent with any problems. It is obviously something I am doing wrong, but cannot fathom out what ! Any other suggestions>
I have also created another torrent using Transmission instead of Vibe, but exactly the same problem.
Try looking in your account profile for the complete list of torrents you have uploaded. Are your new ones there?
Did as you asked, yes three are there because I tried 3 times. have copied and pasted the details:
Type Name Comm Hits Seeders Leechers Completed Added Edit
Video: Television Invasion Earth part 1 0 9 0 1 0 1 day EDIT
Video: Television Invasion Earth part 1 0 9 0 0 0 1 day EDIT
Video: Television Invasion Earth part 1 6 4 0 0 0 2 days EDIT
I am still having no luck in uploading a torrent.
I have made a torrent, which I then try to upload. I fill in the boxes etc plus a description of the torrent. I then upload it and then I download it as indicated on the page. Then I ensure the download torrent is placed into the same folder as my uploaded avi file and original torrent file. It appears on the site for a short time. During this time, I try to download the file myself to ensure it is working, but nothing downloads. Also there is a '0' under the seed column on the site.
I doubt the fact that I use a Mac could result in my failure, but mentioning this just in case it is a possibility.
I was so sure I did the correct thing, but can anyone tell me what I've missed please. I feel quite guilty always downloading from the site and I have a number of files which may be of interest to the other members and would love to share.
Hoping someone can help me.

After you create the torrent file using your torrent client, you must not move or rename those files on your hard drive.
( unless you know
precisely what you are doing. )
I find it best to create a new directory ( or folder ) and placing the files to be uploaded within it, and triple checking everything
before creating the .torrent file.
You also may want to search for torrent upload problems in relation to your ISP as many have begun disallowing outgoing torrents.
Comcast ( My ISP ) is one of those and the workaround for that ( for now ) is encrypting the torrent file.
Other problems may lie with your firewall and/or router port settings. ( you have to open certain ports so others can access your files. )
Unfortunately I know nothing about macs.
I must admit my torrent was being saved on the desktop, which I then transferred to the folder with the avi - I have tried again saving the torrent directly to the folder (rather than the desktop). Then I downloaded the torrent saving it in the same folder.
I checked with my ISP and they assured me there should be no problems uploading a torrent and in fact said that it could be Concen who are refusing them ??
The only thing I have not looked at is the router and to be honest I would not have a clue what to do in that area - any suggestions ?
Thanks for replying to my plea
As I said I know nothing about macs, however in your torrent client's options ( or preferences ) there should be settings for the ports.
You need to figure out which ports are for outgoing torrents and open that/those ports on your router and configure your firewall to allow the passing of that information.
I currently use uTorrent and it uses the same port for both uploads and downloads, but I am unable to seed unless I open that port on my router.
I can leech just fine with that router port closed ( stealthed actually ).
I no longer have vuze installed and do not remember the settings for it off the top of my head, but it was set up for different ports for downloads and uploads.
Thanks for the info. Actually I've just spent the last hour or so checking out Vuze and ports etc.
I'll have a look at uTorrent tomorrow. This part is starting to make sense to me now.
I'll report back later once I've had the chance to try and work things out.
What port do you use on uTorrent - of course there is no guarantee that'll work for me though.
You are the first person that has mentioned ports to me - guess most people are aware of
all this though.
You are welcome jewels.
It is a custom port number set up by myself and I truly would rather not name it as my being an Admin on several "controversial" forums has led to people trying to hack me ( and succeed on occasions ). If I was to post the port number it would be an easy matter to discover my IP ( because of the sheer number of torrents I download here and elsewhere ), and that combination ( IP and open port number ) is very dangerous to me in the wrong hands.
( Kinda like my asking you in public for the combination to your safe if you get what I mean )
Also If you do run through a router you will not want to use "random" port settings in your torrent client ( outgoing ) because if you restart the client it may no longer match the router port which you have opened.
Have you tried the vuze forums ?
http://forum.vuze.com/index.jspa
Personally I prefer vuze ( with the old azureaus interface ) but this machine has a problem with the required java...
Not rnough memory to do what I do and uTorrent is very lightweight.
My recommendations are to have a single folder just for the .torrent files as sometimes clients will have problems if you make any changes to the data folder after you have created a .torrent.
After you have uploaded the .torrent file and are ready to download the .torrent file to set the hash, instead of saving the .torrent, just have your client open the file from the browser. I have noticed clients and browsers have varied results as to where the .torrent file is opened.
Also, have you made sure that the tracker url is correct?

Lastly, there's no need for another thread for your same problem so I am merging your threads.
EDIT: When you are going to attempt this again, send me a PM on the forum side and I will attempt to give you some real-time help.
