I was shocked to not find such a thread in the Media Tools section, so thought I would start.

http://keepvid.com ----> A good site for downloading (sometimes a choice of low quality and high quality) from many sites such as Youtube and Daily Motion. Sometimes tempremental and a request needs to be sent a few times due to encryption on sites it seems. Has been a brilliant tool to me over the years.

http://vixy.net/ ----> Just found this, which prompted me to make this thread as had notcied none.

Quote:About this service:

This service allows you convert a Flash Video / FLV file (YouTube's videos, etc) to MPEG4 (AVI/MOV/MP4/MP3/3GP) file online. It is using a compressed domain transcoder technology (outline in Japanese). It converts FLV to MPEG4 faster and less lossy than a typical transcoder.

When you submit a URL, it will download and convert to the video format, and then you can download the converted file.

FLV to MPEG4 Conveter engine is now OpenSource. You can download the source code via subversion: http://sourceforge.net/svn/?group_id=183657
Firefox has an add on that will convert flv to avi (mpeg) in the
download so you and use nero or vcd or dvd burner to store for
TV viewing.
I have not used it yet.
Download Helper is the name but there might be more involved
like another add on, not sure.
Yea, I have download helper for Firefox, though I have not used the converter yet as I thought you had to purchase a licence key for that aspect of the program.

Thanks for the information -- I rather like KeepVid then convert to XVid MP3 for max compatibility, what would y'all use for an XVid converter - for best results?
