Bush Given Arbitrary Power to Imprison Anyone He Chooses, Foreign or Domestic
Friday ushered in a new side to America with the final passage of the detainee treatment bill; one which reallocates government power by eliminating the power of the judiciary, handing it directly to the President.
The new bill allows Bush sole authority to determine who an enemy is and who shall be imprisoned. Once imprisoned, the president is given power to interrogate or even torture the named enemy indefinitely; making habeas corpus a thing of the past.
The new bill also allows the president to interpret international law under the Geneva Conventions in any way that he wishes, as well as its application; leaving any questions of legality to President Bush's sole discretion.
