I wrote this in reply to another post but it is important information so I have taken the liberty to make my own thread. I won't post often but when I do it will be meaningful and accurate.

Here is the truth on this subject. Ignore this at your own peril.

A subject when playing video/computer games responds in a very similar fashion to an individual on amphetamines. Both increase the synaptic activity of the dopamine and norepinephrine neurotransmitter systems in the brain.

Video games and television present a constant barrage of information into the brain to which the conscious mind cannot keep up. This when coupled with the flickering effect of the medium induce an altered mental state in which the brain is induced to release dopamine and block its reuptake. Both the storage of dopamine and the control of the dopamine already released by enzymes are severly inhibited.

Thus the medium of television and video games become extremely addictive due to the induced state of well-being experienced by the subject when experiencing the medium as well as their growing inability to experience well-being when not exposed to the medium.

Many drugs work in exactly the same way.

The symptons that often lead to a diagnosis of theoretical illnesses like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism are a result in most cases to the exposure of an individual to television and video games. An individuals diet as a secondary cause will also have a major impact and will serve to exasperate any symptons.

It should also be noted that the flickering of a computer screen in itself alters brain function and this can help explain the addiction to the use of computers by many people.

I have not delved into the content of computer games and television due to the fact that any person with common sense can easily see the effectual and destructive programming influence there.
Many of today's MMORPGs are prolly as addictive as crack, really. They are complex virtual realities.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MMORPG
Ive played world of warcraft and ive taken Crack, the latter is far more addictive than the former.

Everquest is refered to by its players as evercrack, once again im struggling to see the simularities.

Addiction effects players/individuals in different ways its more the mindset of the person then the content of the game or the flickering of a screen, theres so many variables that go from subseptability to power of influence to straight forward locale profiling.

However to label all this media as destructive programming is a massive generalisation, and one that can be disproved in a heartbeat.
Other than being a good tool for thruthspeakers, I don't tv and video games are good for us.

Because of the effects you said, the subliminals, and the escape from their own life and reality.
i was that way with games when i was a kid. its all i wanted to do when i was young, play video games. crack to an adult probably not, crack to a kid most likely.
I've also been addicted to games, hehe

Norway is a TV addicted country, all most people wanna do here is just watch tv all day.
Reality Tv is a big hit here and we've got lot's of cheesy american reality tv to choose from.
MSM has my vote for biggest mind control operation currently in existance. MSM = mainstream media (tv, video games, movies, etc.).

second my vote gets i guess would be big pharma and all the damn prescription drugs. nah, i guess drugs in general. alcohol too. pot heads are dense and alcoholics are just plain out of control and clueless.

GAME OVER!

i gave up gaming almost a year ago in persuit of knowledge fellow comrade. i also gave up the mind altering substances thank you very much. there's war afoot, and i can't fight in it if i'm distracted.

Well to be quite honest, I like your attitude. My hat's off to your sir!

I did ALL THE ABOVE and never again. An occasional glass of wine with dinner and just enough not to get a buzz.

For me personally, it was the best move I ever made. Such clarity now and I feel great
I dont watch that much TV anymore except to put me to sleep at night (only thing that will wierd huh?) and I play a video game from now and then sometimes, but only for like 30 minutes. I more active in everyday life, and online.
I don't watch TV at all anymore. There's pretty much just brainless tube fed zombie food on it. For the rare exception of educational shows, MMA fights and Dallas Stars hockey games , I get those online.
I am a computer gamer but I can only play a game thru once and I'm done. I don't play MMO's but as immersive as they are becoming they are approaching true VR. All we need now is plugs so we can jack in. That will be the ultimate escapism and will bring up the question of "What is real?".

Escapes from life are a healthy thing in moderate doses. The mind needs to play as well as learn and work. A balance of those is the way to go.

As far as them being addictive as drugs, I gotta argue against that one. Psychological addictions and physical ones are different animals entirely but can go hand in hand with drugs...illegal and legal. There is no comparison between a monkey like the 900 lb gorilla of a physical and psychological addiction to crack and the little stuffed monkey of a video game habit. My personal experiences with drugs have been very good. I must have a bit of the Shaman in me as I have very, very few bad experiences with them. They really opened my mind, my eyes and my soul to some insights and conclusions on human nature, the universe (or multi-verse), time, spirituality, our physical existence...I could just go on.

In conclusion, a fair bit of the effects of TV, video games and drugs are dependent on many variables which vary from person to person. One man's trash is another's treasure. What is poison to one is nectar to another. Education, information, investigation, flexibility and balance are the best tools to use when dealing with anything in life and especially things that have a potential to be abused or harmful.
Symptoms, symptoms, symptoms! These little distractions are merely an indicator of the real problem. If people didn't have such an overwhelming need to escape a truly horrible reality, there would be no lure, no inducement to such distractions.

There are limits. When one masters one of these distractions, something else will present itself. You've got to root out the core cause, internally, else endless distractions will always show up to pull your attention away from the real problems.
You do make a good point, tsoldrin. The worse the condition of our "reality", the more we want to escape it. I do feel that there is a sense of exploration in some of it. More video game there and not so much TV at all.

In my case, I feel there's less escapism and more exploration. I am intensely curious and want to explore everything. Once I've seen something and explored it, time to move on. Might be one reason why I have no fear of death. LOL Seen this world, done it. Next! My preferences in games are ones where I can explore immersive environments and see something new. Could also be why I burn through jobs and girlfriends like nobody's biz. he he

Unfortunately this is a most vulnerable time as the consciousness (the brain's firewall) slips aways to reveal the unprotected subconscious.
