I need to convert a WMV to an AVI (and also an iPod touch mp4) and I figure someone here should know of a good way to nicely compress this and not have any viewing problems for end users by way of utilizing obscure codecs. Sooner is better. Thanks in advance all.

Assuming you use windows, there's quite a list of format converter tools there. Some are free, some trialware etc.

LOL I just came from there, first place I looked but I was overwhelmed by the magnitude of tools and did not want to have to audit every app. Anything specific you have tried that works good for my purposes.

I can't recall what I used to use other than Dr. Divx.

I've been using "Replay Converter" recently and I've always had great results with it.
